Free hoops for kids
at World Hoop Day 2017

Saturday, October 7, 2017

11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Beacon Recreation Center
23 West Center St., Beacon, NY 12508

Small Tribe Hoops and High Falls Hoopers for Humanity bring FREE hoops, lessons, and fun to kids at the Beacon Recreation Center. World Hoop Day is an international holiday where people gather to hoop for health, peace, love, and joy.

Hoopers of all levels are welcome to join the flow jam--where individuals hoop as the music plays. During the jam, hoops made or donated by Hudson Valley flow artists will be given to kids while supplies last. Participants can watch performances, play games, and enjoy the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of hoop dance.

“World Hoop Day shares the love of hooping. We will form a circle--the shape of the hoop--uniting all event goers together for a moment of silence to visualize unity on earth,” said Sandy Foster, spokesperson for High Falls Hoopers for Humanity. “We’re excited to introduce you to what may become your favorite new dance partner--the hoop!”

This event is free and open to the public.

Elena's been hooping for 10 years and is certified by Hoopgirl and Bodyhoops since 2009.
She's organized one official "hoopjam" at the Willow Kiln Park in Rosendale, and has participated in numerous charity events including Catholic charity "Commit to Kids",  "Vampire's Ball" for the New York Nurses Association, and a student's jam at Woodstock Day School. She's taught classes at the YMCA in Kingston, The Living Seed in New Paltz, and the Marbletown Community Center. She's made too many hoops to count and hopes to share her love of hooping at this event by donating demos to kids and adults interested in learning and introduce a new fun style of fitness to the community.

Heather's been hooping for over 9 years and was voted Best Parent/Child Exercise 2016 by Hudson Valley Magazine.  She's taught at many locations in the area and currently teaches at the Center for Creative Education in Beacon.  As the founder and heartbeat of Small Tribe Hoops she's inspired and encouraged scores of hoopers in the Hudson Valley and world beyond via Instagram with her positive mantra to embrace their progress at every step of their hoop journey in a competition-free, judgment-free zone.

Sandy Foster

Sandy is a beginner hooper celebrating her first year spinning and is the girl with the clipboard at World Hoop Day '17.  This year she performed with High Falls Hoopers for Humanity at Global Water Dances in High Falls and at the Rosendale Street Fair.  She says the mere fact that a beginner feels safe enough to hoop with experts in a performance is testament to how successful Heather and Chiara are for encouraging students.

Chiara Herman

Chiara has been hooping obsessively since 2012 and meets along with High Falls Hoopers for Humanity and the Mid-Hudson Juggling Club to teach and learn the art of hoop dance.  She became a Hooplovers certified hoop instructor (aka Hoop Love Coach) in 2015 and enjoys a balance of fun and exercise with the hula hoop.  She has spread hoop love via programs at SUNY New Paltz and the Elks Club.  Her kindness, patience, and humor delight children and adults alike when she shares hooping for joy, play, fitness, and mental and physical health.

Lenore Verdi

Lenore has been a hooper for 4 years.  It has been a great active hobby that she enjoys immensely--she even travels from Wurtsboro to Beacon for Small Tribe Hoops classes.

Dawn Weygant

Dawn has been hooping for just over a year with Small Tribe Hoops.  At her first class she immediately knew that she would incorporate it into her daily life.  She uses hooping as a tool for meditation in her own spiritual practice.
